We're being told that smoothies are good for us - especially those you make yourself. However, are you aware that if you make your smoothies with full fat milk they can actually make you gain weight. The ideal liquid to use is a little water along with the natural juices in the fruit and vegetables you add. You'll also have to select fruits which aren't too high in sugar content. If you want a milky smoothie try using low fat yogurt as your base.
This time of the year super summer fruits are widely available. pack your smoothie with red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, red currants, cherries - basically any fruit which is red in colour will provide you with a great tasting smoothie which is full of vitamins and minerals and also low in calories.
Fresh fruit smoothies are ideal for those who 'don't eat breakfast' - one glass will set you up for the morning very nicely. When the temperature soars try making your smoothies with crushed ice, they're so refreshing and will help to prevent you snacking on carbohydrates (biscuits, cakes and crisps).
If you have a sensitive stomach or bloating you could also you pro-biotic yogurt (the ones with the 'good' bugs included in them!).
Tip for the day:
Some people are sensitive to strawberries and have an allergic reaction to them - obviously don't include them in your smoothie, instead add more raspberries or logan-berries.
