Friday Fruits

To try and keep things in order and easy for you to keep track of, I've decided to try and give each day its own topic. As you can see today's topic is 'Friday Fruits', so without further ado let's take a look at fruit in a little more detail!

All fruit has a colour the main colours being red, green, yellow and orange. We all know that fruit is good for you, that's it's packed full of vitamins, minerals and natural sugars. It's the sugar content that you need to be aware of and whilst eating any type of fruit is a good thing there are some which you should restrict to sensible quantities due to the amount of natural sugars they contain.

This Friday I'm going to look at green fruits - apples, grapes, kiwi, pears, avocados and lime are the most common.

Each is delicious in its own right but some will help you feel fuller for longer and don't contain as much natural sugars as other. Probably the best is green apples; with such a wide variety to choose from any green coloured apple is good for you. Try and eat them as a raw fruit, if you really don't like apples, apple juice (without any added sugar or colourings) can count towards your 5 a day.

Eating the skin is also a good habit to take on board as much of the goodness lies just beneath the skin, so if you peel your apple/s you'll be losing for of these vitamins and minerals. The skin is also a natural source of fibre and roughage which will help your digestive tract and bowels to work properly.

Today's recipe:
Green fruit Salad

Ingredients:
1 green apple (Granny Smiths are tasty) washed and sliced
1 green pear (Rocha or Conference are ideal)washed and sliced
A small bunch of seedless green grapes washed and halved
I kiwi peeled and sliced
Juice of 1 lime

Method:
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and squeeze with lime juice to help prevent dicolouration.
Mix gently so that all the fruit is coated with the lime juice.
Place in the fridge until ready to serve.

To serve:
Either eat as it is or add 2 tbsp crème fraîche or Greek yoghurt

Enjoy!
